Katy Too, aka singer-songwriter Leen De Haes, has just completed the brand new album ‘Nine Lives’. In 2012, the charming debut album ‘Quest For Honey’ – produced by Anton Walgrave – was enthusiastically received. For the sequel, she contacted producer Wigbert Van Lierde. Charmed by the attractive force and clarity of Katy Too’s new song material he brought together a solid team of musicians: Peter Lesage (keyboards), Karel De Backer (drums), Ewen Vernal (bass) and Gert Jacobs (recording and mixing) all ensure the groove and intensity in the sound palet. Master bassist Wouter Berlaen arranged two songs on this album: an extraordinarily swinging ‘Darlin’ Tell Me Now’ and the moving ‘No Angel’, which provide us with two crisp pop songs.
Characterising Katy Too’s songs are beautiful melodies and lyrics that, in their simplicity, find the right words for complex situations. Leen De Haes takes a long hard look at herself as well as at the world around her, creating a beautiful layering both in the text and in the interpretation. Sometimes fragile soft singing, sometimes with a solid Americana “twang”, always honest and personal.
